GUWAHATI: Tripura toyed with the bowling of Assam and piled up huge total on the board on day I in Ranji Trophy tie at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara here today.
Invited to bat first, Tripura were 387-7 at stumps on day I. Four batsmen in the team scored half centuries.
Assam rested senior pacer Arup Das and brought in Mrinmoy Dutta in the playing XI. But the decision to bowl first didn’t work today even though they managed to pick up a couple of early wickets.
Pacer Ranjeet Mali looks very consistent with the ball this season and he maintained same performance today also. Ranjeet, picked up 32 wickets from earlier seven matches, gave good start to the host picking opener P Das before the batsman opened his account. The side lost another wicket in the form of J Banik (0), taken by Mrinmoy Dutta, when the score was only 14. Thereafter it was totally one sided affair for Tripura.
Opener A Sinha (90, 4X18)) and Pratyush Singh (63, 4X9) added 136 runs on the third-wicket and that too in just 25.4 overs which created the foundation for big total. Later M Mura Singh (82no, 4X11), Milind (53, 4X7) and S Ghosh (48,4X8) not only performed nicely with the bat but also put quick runs on the board. A Sinha, the top scorer in the innings, took just 32 balls to score his fifty.
Assam used seven bowlers on the first day and Ranjeet, 4-91, came out with best figure. Mrinmoy Dutta (2-97) and Gokul Sarma (1-13) collected the other wickets that Tripura lost today.
