Upsets In Semis Of AITA Super Series U-14 Tennis Tournament At Jorhat Tennis Club

GUWAHATI: 6th seeded Ayaan Shankar of Tamil Nadu entered the final of the boys singles event in the AITA Super Series U-14 Tennis tournament held at the Jorhat Tennis Club court.

He caused a major upset by defeating the top seed Rishab Kumar Prasad of West Bengal 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0.

On the other hand, 3rd seed Jahnavi Tammineedhi of Andhra Pradesh confirmed her spot in the Girls final by upsetting the 2nd seed Indrakshi Bhattacharyya of West Bengal 6-3, 7-5.

All the final matches are scheduled to be played tomorrow.            

Meanwhile, earlier yesterday, Day 3 of the AITA Super Series Under 14 Tennis tournament witnessed several upsets in the quarterfinal matches of both the Girls and the Boys events played in the Jorhat Tennis Club courts.

In the Girls category, 6th seeded Padmapriya Rameshkumar from Karnataka upset the top seed Riya Roy of West Bengal 6-4, 6-4 in a straight set victory.

In a major shocker in the girls event, unseeded Arisha Choudhury of Assam made her state proud by getting the better of Sudiksha Banerjee, the 4th seed hailing from West Bengal in a thrilling 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 encounter.

As far as the boys category was concerned, 6th seeded Ayaan Shankar of Tamil Nadu cruised past 3rd seed Mithran Loganathan also from Tamil Nadu 6-4, 6-4, causing another upset.

Notably, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) is the governing body of tennis in India. It was established in 1920 and affiliated by International Tennis Federation and Asian Tennis Federation.

All India Tennis Association operates all of the Indian national representative tennis sides, including the India Davis Cup team, the India Fed Cup team and youth sides as well. AITA is also responsible for organising and hosting tennis tournaments within India and scheduling the home international fixtures.
