Lovlina Borgohain Assures Boxing Medal of the women's 75 kg boxing competition

The 26-year-old Assam boxer showcased a dominant performance, registering a perfect score in the bout against Suyeon Seong and won 5:0 on points.

HANGZHOU: Olympic bronze medallist and reigning world champion Lovlina Borgohain advanced to the semifinals of the women's 75 kg boxing competition, assuring India of its third boxing medal at the ongoing Asian Games on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Assam boxer showcased a dominant performance, registering a perfect score in the bout against Suyeon Seong and won 5:0 on points.

Lovlina is assured her first Asian Games medal while she can secure India an Olympic quota at Paris 2024 in the women's 75kg weight category with a semi-final win.

Borgohain will take on Thai boxer Baison Maneekon, an Asian Championship silver medallist, in the semi-final on Tuesday at 12:00 PM IST.

Meanwhile, Sachin Siwach received a walkover in the men's 57kg round of 16. He will go up against Pakistan's Muhammad Qasim or China's Lyu Ping in the quarter-final on Tuesday.

Earlier, Preeti Pawar confirmed her entry to the semifinals of the 54 kg category She beat Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova in the quarterfinal clash 4-1, on the basis of the win by points. Four judges ruled in favour of the Indian boxer while only one judge ruled in favour of Zhaina. Agencies
