KOKRAJHAR: The Tamulpur District Penchak Silat Association had organised the 2nd Bodoland Penchak Silat Summer Arts Championship 2022-23 in Goreshwar of Assam.
The organisers mentioned that more than 80 players who belong to the four districts falling under the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District of Assam took part in this sporting event. Some of the winners of this tournament were Ramila Khatoon, Royal Akhtar, Mohammad Hussain alias Mamoon, Hriday Jyoti Pathak, Samiksha Divya Bora, Khadija Parveen, Ankit Devnath and Jitumoni Sutradhar.
Dr Mahbubar Rahman, a senior doctor by profession and a Penchak Silat player belonging to the Barpeta road region. Showcasing their talent, Ramila Khatoon, Royal Akhtar and Mohd. Abdul Hussain and Hriday Jyoti Pathak grabbed the gold medals while Samiksha Divya Bora, Khadija Parveen and Ankit Devnath received the silver medals for their expertise in the sport. Jeetu Mani Sutradhar won a bronze medal in the event.
Notably, out of the 9 players who represented the Baksa district in the competition, 8 managed to bring home medals making the district proud.
In what is being hailed by many as a step towards the development of Indian football, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Manipur government to create world-class footballing facilities in the state. The MoU was signed ahead of the Tri-nation international football tournament’s deciding match. The Indian team on Tuesday night registered a 2-0 victory over higher-ranked Kyrgyzstan to win the Tri-national trophy with an all-win record and without conceding a goal.
Also, a new committee was formed for the Grappling Association of Assam. Ashok Barman and Swadesh Acharjee were elected president and secretary of the Grappling Association of Assam (GAA) during its Annual General Meeting held in the city recently. Nur Alam Sarkar will be the treasurer of the newly formed executive committee.
