GUWAHATI: President Ramnath Kovind conferred the National Service Scheme (NSS) Awards for the year 2018-19 on Thursday from Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi through virtual mode. Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju attended the ceremony from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The NSS Awards were given to 42 awardees in 3 different categories like University / +2 Council, NSS Units and their Programme Officers, and NSS Volunteers. This year 1 Programme Officer and 4 NSS Volunteers from North East Region have received the award from the president through virtual mode at National Informatics Centre, Assam Secretariat, Janata Bhawan. Programme Officer namely Sister Sweta William Parmar of Don Bosco College, Manipur, and NSS Volunteers namely Nipamoni Deka of Gauhati University, Amit Biswakarma of Digboi College, Supriya Das and Puja Debbarma of Tripura have been conferred the NSS Award. The award consists of Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 50,000 respectively for NSS Programme Officer and NSS Volunteers along with a silver medal and certificate. This is stated in a release.
