Rome: Rome's Diamond League meeting, which had been previously moved to Naples to make way for the Euro 2020, will return to the Italian capital on September 17. According to the Italian Athletics Federation, the meeting will not return to the Olympic Stadium, the original home to the annual track and field gala, but go to the Stadio dei Marmi instead.

"It will be the Golden Gala of the Italians, but this doesn't mean that there will be no foreign protagonists," said Alfio Gomi, head of the Italian Athletics Federation, adding that event could be held with spectators.

The event was scheduled to take place on May 28 but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

World Athletics, the global governing body of sport, released a shortened, provisional Diamond League calendar early this month, in which the Diamond League in Italy had been rescheduled to September 17. IANS
