India's higher seeding played a decisive role in securing their place in the semis.

Malaysia won the toss and chose to bowl, hoping to capitalize on the damp conditions, but rain ultimately had the last say. India's opening pair, comprised of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, wasted no time in taking the attack to the Malaysian bowlers. The Women in Blue got off to a flying start.

Despite her dismissal, Shafali Verma remained undeterred and continued her onslaught on the Malaysian bowlers. With 67 runs off 39 balls, including four fours and five sixes, she mercilessly punished every loose delivery, boasting a strike rate of 171.79.

Jemimah Rodrigues, India's No. 3 batter, known for her patient approach, displayed a different mindset on this occasion. She aggressively took on the Malaysian attack as soon as she arrived at the crease, notching up a rapid 47 from just 29 balls, with a blazing strike rate of 162.06.

The final flourish to India's innings was delivered by wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, who contributed a cameo of 21 runs, featuring three boundaries and a maximum. India concluded their innings at 173 for the loss of two wickets, setting a target of 177 for Malaysia in their allotted 15 overs before rain intervened, ultimately bringing an end to the contest.

In this rain-interrupted clash, Smriti Mandhana's stellar performance and the aggressive batting of Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues proved pivotal in securing India's spot in the Asian Games 2023 semi-finals.
