Sourav Ganguly's Heart is "Very, Very Strong", says Dr Devi Shetty

Former captain of the Indian Cricket team, Sourav Ganguly was admitted to Woodlands Hospital on January 2, after he complained of chest pain.

Kolkata: A well-known cardiologist, Dr Devi Shetty said that the heart of the former Indian Cricket team captain, Sourav Ganguly is as strong as it was when he was just 20-years-old. Dr Shetty made this statement about BCCI President Ganguly on Tuesday.

Dr Shetty met the team of nine doctors, who are attending Ganguly at the Woodlands Hospital. They decided on the further course of action.

Ganguly, 48, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after he complained of chest pain. He is to be discharged on Wednesday. Following his discharge from the hospital, he will be monitored at home regularly. The next course of medical intervention will be done after two-three weeks.

Dr Shetty said that Ganguly did not have any major problem. It was a blockage of the coronary artery. He did not have any heart damage. He arrived at the right hospital at the right time.

The doctor further said that Ganguly has a "very, very strong heart."

Ganguly had suffered a sudden blackout following mild chest pain during a workout session at his Behala residence on January 2. He called up his family doctor who advised him to immediately get admitted to a hospital.

On knowing that Ganguly was admitted to the hospital, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Sad to hear that Sourav Ganguly suffered a mild cardiac arrest and has been admitted to hospital." Banerjee also wished him a speedy and full recovery. "My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family," the CM said.

Sources close to Ganguly said that an ECG test was conducted upon him after he rushed to the hospital. He is now stable and out of danger. He underwent an angioplasty. A troponin-T test will also be performed upon the BCCI chief at the hospital to determine the cause of his sudden chest pain.
