Spain beat Switzerland on penalties to enter semifinal of EURO 2020

Spain stormed into the semifinal of EURO 2020 as they beat Switzerland 3-1 on the penalty shootout in the first quarterfinal here on Friday. The match ended in 1-1 draw in scheduled time while no team could score in Extra time.

St Petersburg: Spain stormed into the semifinal of EURO 2020 as they beat Switzerland 3-1 on the penalty shootout in the first quarterfinal here on Friday. The match ended in 1-1 draw in scheduled time while no team could score in Extra time.

Mikel Oyarzabal, Gerard Moreno and Dani Olmo netted for Spain while Sergio Busquets hit the post and Yann Sommer shoot was saved. On the other hand, three Swiss players failed to score. Fabian Schar, Manuel Akanji and Ruben Vargas failed while Mario Gavranovic scored the first kick.

Earlier, Remo Freuler was sent off and Switzerland is down to 10 men in 77th minute after they levelled the score by veteran Xherdan Shaqiri in 68th minute. Spain tried their best to score in Extra-time, but playing in defensive manner the Swiss managed to defend all attacks. Spain took the lead in 10th minute of the match by the own goal of Swiss defender Zakaria.
