ACAPULCO: Eighth seed Alex de Minaur recovered from a set down to beat American Tommy Paul 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the final of the ATP 500 Mexican Open.

The Australian won 81% of points on his first serve and converted four of 10 break points to clinch his seventh ATP tour victory.

“I’ve been putting in a lot of effort to ensure that I’m as fit as any other player,” De Minaur said. “My preparation has been thorough and that gives me a lot of confidence.”

It marks the first time that De Minaur has won an ATP 500 event.

Paul looked to be suffering the effects of a grueling semifinal victory over Taylor Fritz on Friday, a match that took three hours and 25 minutes to be completed. Agencies
