ADELAIDE: World No. 11 Paula Badosa of Spain on Thursday claimed a semifinal spot in the Adelaide International 2, beating Brazils's Beatriz Haddad Maia 7-6(5), 7-5 in over two-and-a-half hour contest.

The win was in straight sets, but the match stretched beyond two-and-a-half hours as both players exchanged long rallies in their first meeting, with a gruelling 74-minute first set followed by an even longer 81-minute second set.

In the final four, Badosa will face fifth seed Daria Kasatkina, who became the first player into the semifinals with a win over two-time Grand Slam winner Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

Earlier on Thursday, Kasatkina claimed her second straight win over a Grand Slam champion to reach the semifinals of the Adelaide International 2.

Kasatkina defeated two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-3, 7-6 (3) just a day after her win over former Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova.
