NEW DELHI: With most live sporting action coming to a grinding halt due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the American Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Sunday (Saturday in the United States) brought about a sense of normalcy as it became the first major competition marking the resumption of live action. The UFC 249 became the first ever contact-sport event (The South Korean football league, K-League also resumed on May 8) to resume action, although behind closed doors and with full medical precautions.

The event, watched by the world, even drew praise from the US President Donald Trump, who mentioned it as 'important'.

As the world tries to get up and dust itself off, resumption of sports is being seen as critical. Already at a standstill for almost two months, professional leagues around the world in different sports have been on the path of resumption. From rugby to football, leagues around the world have been making desperate attempts to get back players on the field, following necessary and important safety guidelines. Agencies
