GUWAHATI: The preparations for the Assam boxing contingent for National Games have hit a roadblock with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre, refusing to allow members of the support staff to accompany the contingent.

According to sources in the Assam Olympic Association (AOA), all travel plans and tickets have already been booked well in advance. However, the SAI Regional Centre has not released the support staff yet.

A senior official of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association admitted the development and said that boxers would be in trouble if the officials didn’t join the team.

It may be mentioned here that the Assam Olympic Association, in a recent letter, requested the SAI Regional Centre to allow three boxers, a coach, and a massage therapist to accompany the Assam boxing contingent from October 30 to November 10. AOA sources said that they didn’t receive any response from the SAI regional centre regarding the availability of the support staffs till date.
