127 Accidents on First Day of Diwali in State

GUWAHATI: Amidst the Diwali joys and celebrations across the State, like every other year in the past, the festivities on the first day itself has also been marked by a large number of revelers meeting with road accidents in the State. These accidents are only the ones that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. On the day of Diwali, the State witnessed 144 accidents that have been attended to by the Mrityunjay Services. There have been other cases of accidents as well in the State during the Diwali festival.

According to sources, the State witnessed 17 burn cases that were attended to by the Mrityunjay Services on Sunday. Udalguri topped the list with six burn cases, followed by Kamrup (M) with three, Kamrup (R), Jorhat and Dibrugarh with two each, and Lakhimpur and Sonitpur with one case each.

Altogether 127 road accidents occurred on the same day. Both Kamrup (M) and Kamrup (R) topped the list with 16 cases each, Dhemaji witnessed 13 cases, Barpeta 10, Sonitpur eight; Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Golaghat seven each; Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dhubri and Baksa five each; Dibrugarh and Nagaon with four each; Bongaigaon and Goalpara with three each; Udalguri, Cachar and Chirang two each; Kokrajhar, Darrang and Tinsukia with one case each. This is the price that is being paid for the unruly merriment during Diwali.
