Sentinel Digital Desk

GUWAHATI: As many as 15,752 posts of teachers have been lying vacant in the government-sector schools in the state despite the government providing jobs to over 70,000 youths in the state since May 2021. The vacant posts of teachers speak volumes about the education scenario in the government sector in the state.

According to sources, 7,694 of the vacant posts are for graduate teachers in high schools, followed by 4,556 teachers in higher secondary schools: 2,830 graduate teachers and 1,726 subject teachers. The LP schools also have 3,502 vacant posts for teachers.

As many as 2,830 third and fourth grade posts are also vacant from lower primary to higher secondary schools in the state. The students will get the benefits if the government fills up the vacant post with the earnestness it has shown in filling up vacant posts in other departments through the formation of recruitment commissions. With such a dismal scenario of vacant posts, the government-sector schools can never compete with their counterparts in the private sector.
