HAILAKANDI: An 18-day-old infant has been found COVID-19 positive along with his parents in Hailakandi district, said Health authorities here, adding that the baby boy along with his father Partho Deb and mother Sumi Deb are residents of Tupkhana on the outskirts of the town. They have been shifted from the Hindustan Paper Corporation's COVID Care Centre to the SK Roy designated COVID Civil Hospital.

Hospital Superintendent Dr Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty fuerther said that the condition of the Caesarean baby is stable and breast feeding is being done at regular intervals. He disclosed that both the mother and the baby are being nursed; and kept at a separate enclosure in the COVID-19 ward. He added that immunity booster dose is being administered to the mother to enable her to withstand the disease.

Dr Chakrabarty also stated though the family has been pleading to move to their place of residence, the authorities are not allowing them to do so. Their swab sample tests will be conducted on the ninth day, and the results will have to be negative for them to return to their home.

In another development on the COVID-19 front, infant Nibash Roy, who had succumbed at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Monday has been declared a non-COVID victim by the State-level 'Death Board for Audit of COVID-19-Related Deaths' on Tuesday. As the report came in late, the district administration, however, carried out the last rites following the State protocols at a nondescript place at Katlicherra on Wednesday afternoon.
