GUWAHATI: Two minors have died and more than 3.63 lakh people across 950 villages in 21 districts have been affected in the first wave of foods in the State this season. Meanwhile, the State government has also brought in a set of new rules for heavy vehicles passing through KNP (Kaziranga National Park).

Sources informed that drivers of heavy vehicles plying from upper Assam to lower Assam will have to take the detour route of Bogibeel Bridge and Saraighat, and vice versa. Those proceeding to upper Assam via Guwahati will have to take the route via the Kaliabhomora and Bogibeel Bridges. However, light vehicles have been allowed to ply via the national park at speed of only 40 km per hour.

Meanwhile, a report of the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) says that one child died in floods at Baghbar in Barpeta District. Another child casualty has been reported from Bhuragaon in Morigaon District.

A total of 1,619 people are being provided shelters in 44 relief camps set up at flood-affected areas of Barpeta, Chirang, Dhemaji, Golaghat and Majuli. Roads have been damaged at 14 places, added the report.
