GUWAHATI: Altogether 30 ethnic organizations along with the AASU (All Assam Students Union) have again commenced their joint stir against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) here on Monday. They also opposed the EIA (Environment Impact Assessment) proposed by the Central government. They also demanded proper compensation and rehabilitation of the affected people at the Baghjan oil well inferno in Tinsukia district.

Hundreds of protestors brought out a human chain near the Guwahati Club. This protest rally was organized after a gap of six months following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The protest demonstration brought out by the All Kamrup (Metro) District Students Union under the aegis of AASU, was supported by the All Assam Tribal Sangha, the All Assam Gorkha Students Union, and the Hajong Students Union among others.

Talking to the media after the rally, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, "The Central government has forcefully imposed the CAA on the people of Assam. This Act will destroy the identity and culture of the Assamese people.

"We've already moved the Supreme Court against it. The fight against CAA will continue in the apex Court and also on the streets of Assam.

"Besides, the EIA will pose serious threats to the rich ecosystem and bio-diversity of Assam."
