GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma apprehends that the daily Covid-19 cases in the state may go up to 12,000-14,000. He feels that the third wave may continue for 45 days in the state.

Talking to the media here, the Chief Minister said, "We are safe as of now as there is no problem regarding hospitalization. Hospitalization in this wave is very low, and we have enough beds. However, we can't gauge the would-be situation now. If the hospitalization goes up, we will have to opt for stricter measures. We are laying stress on the vaccination as a preventive measure.

A section of people criticizes the government for not opting for stricter protocols during Christmas and 31st December. This section feels that the government has resorted to stricter measures during the Uruka and the Bihu. In his reply, the Chief Minister said, "We should not be emotional with all matters. The situation during December 25-31 was quite different. The situation is very critical now. If we relax the protocol for the Uruka or Bihu, the Assamese people will be the worst victims. Even then, on the Uruka day, we have relaxed the curfew for two hours. The curfew will be up to 4 am instead of 6 am. The night curfew will start at 11 pm instead of 10 pm on that day."
