NEW DELHI: As many as 41 new railway stations were constructed on account of new lines construction in the north-eastern region (NER) since 2014, said DoNER Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh. He told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that during 2014-19, a total of 231 km of new lines have been commissioned in the north-eastern region.
On the issue of roads, he said, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has constructed 3,178 km of roads in NER during 2014-15 to 2018-19.
“During the same period, under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 22,882 km of roads has been constructed while 987 km roads has been constructed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO),” he said.
The Ministry of DoNER, under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) and the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS-EAP), has completed 187.13 km roads in five projects. Of the 96 projects of road and bridges sector sanctioned by the DoNER Ministry under NLCPR/NESIDS/Special Development Packages of Assam during the period from April 1, 2014 till date, 90 projects costing Rs. 2174.70 crore are ongoing and six projects costing Rs. 139.90 crore have been completed.
The NEC has completed 33 road projects during 2014-15 to 2018-19. Works for 20 roads projects at an estimated cost of Rs.1768 crore for 1075 kms are ongoing.
He added that that road construction in the NER States is being undertaken through schemes of Ministries and Departments which include SARDP-NE and Bharatmala Pariyojana of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways; Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development; and under various schemes of Ministry of DoNER and NEC.
“Besides, roads are also constructed in NER by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under the Ministry of Defence,” the Minister informed.
