GUWAHATI: Following a Cabinet decision, the State Government has provincialized 419 tea garden-managed LP schools, two tea garden-managed ME schools, and one tea garden-managed high school with the condition that the services of the existing teachers engaged by the garden managements will not be provincialized. However, these teachers can continue to serve at the same school on the payroll of the tea gardens concerned.

The government will create two posts of teachers for each of the 419 LP schools, three posts of teachers for each of the two ME schools, and five posts of teachers and one headmaster for the high school. The students of the schools so provincialized shall get the benefits of free textbooks, PM-POSHAN (midday meal), free uniform, etc.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dr. Ranuj Pegu assured the All Assam Non-Provincialized Teachers’ Association that he would take up the issue of the continuation of the mid-day meal, free textbooks, and uniforms for the students of venture schools with the Union Ministry of Education. Following the Central Government’s guidelines on the mid-day meal under PM-POSHAN, the State Government had to delete the names of venture schools from PM-POSHAN. The Minister, however, assured the association that the State Government will continue to provide free textbooks to the students of venture schools under its flagship programmes.
