44 cases against Assam police in less than 3 months!

GUWAHATI: Till March 23, 2022, from January this year, the State Police Accountability Commission registered as many as 44 cases against police personnel. The commission has disposed of 12 of the cases. The remaining 32 cases are under investigation.

In 2021, the commission registered 243 cases against police personnel and disposed of 111 of them. As many as 132 cases of 2021 are still pending.

Since its inception, the commission registered 2,039 cases against police personnel and disposed of 1,728 of them. And 311 cases are still pending.

According to sources, most of the cases registered by the Police Accountability Commission are against alleged serious misconduct like custodial deaths, rapes, molestations, outraging modesty, cases involving grievous hurt coming under Section 320 of IPC (Indian Panel Code) etc.
