SHILLONG: Five Omicron cases were detected in Meghalaya on Tuesday, according to reports.

According to the reports, two cases are from Saiden in Ri Bhoi district and three from East Khasi Hills district (one each in Laitumkhrah, Langkyrding and Happy Valley).

Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills District administration, in order to contain the spread of the Omicron variant, has decided to impose night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am daily beginning Wednesday. The District Magistrate stated that there shall be a total ban on movement during this time.

All official, public and political gatherings are prohibited, weddings are permitted at 50% of the capacity in an enclosed space and a maximum of 100 persons for unenclosed/open space, not exceeding 100 persons in either case. Wearing of masks is mandatory and anyone found without a mask will be fined.

Gatherings for which permission has already been granted will be reviewed on case-to-case basis.

Moreover, private transport within East Khasi Hills may ply on Odd-Even number basis, with odd numbers to ply on Monday and even number s to ply on Tuesday. The odd-even sequence will continue thereafter for the other days of the week. However, the Odd-Even rule shall not apply on Sundays.
