584 gm heroin seized in Karbi Anglong; 2 arrested

BOKAJAN: Achieving yet another milestone in the fight against drug trafficking, the Karbi Anglong police seized a huge quantity of drugs along the Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong on Wednesday evening.

As per reports, the Karbi Anglong police, based on specific information, intercepted a night super bus in the Lahorijan area over NH 36 and on a thorough search of the passengers and their luggage, 58 soap cases containing 584 grams of heroin were recovered concealed inside two rice sacks in the vehicle. Two persons, identified as Irengbam Kokil (35) and Irengbam Babu Singh (32), were arrested in that connection. Both are residents of the West Imphal district in Manipur. The bus was coming from Imphal in Manipur and was bound for Guwahati. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the drug consignment was carried from Imphal and was intended to be delivered in Guwahati.

The recovery was made under the supervision of John Das, SDPO Bokajan, and was assisted by OC Dalai SI(UB) Bitupan Chutia and staff.
