GUWAHATI: Altogether 7,58,154 persons applied for inclusion in the 'Photo Electoral Roll-2021' till December 15 — the last date for filing claims and objections in the ongoing 'Special Summary Revision' (SSR) process across Assam. This process will continue till publication of the 'Final Photo Electoral Roll' on January 15, 2021. These claims will be disposed by the respective District Election Officers (DEOs) with the help of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).

According to sources in the Election Department, Assam, while 42,487 are new applicants in Kamrup (Metro) district, a total of 5,260 persons registered in Majuli district. The eligible applicants will be included in the final photo electoral roll. The disposal process will be completed within January 5, 2021.

The Assembly election-2021 will be conducted based on the final photo electoral roll.

The SSR process began with the publication of the draft photo electoral roll on November 18, 2020. According to the draft 'Photo Electoral Roll-2021', of the 2,24,39,522 electorates in Assam, while 1,14,25748 are male voters; 1,10,13,774 are female electorates.

Mentionably, in the first part of November, altogether 1.46 lakh electorates did not have photos against their names in the draft Photo Electoral Roll. Meanwhile, sources informed that approximately 59,000 electors have not submitted their photographs till date. The Department has urged such voters to submit their photographs at the offices of the District Election Officers (DECs), the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).

Following the ECI (Election Commission of India) guidelines, if any electorate fails to submit his/her photos, the name would be deleted from the electoral roll.
