GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed to the people of the state to celebrate the 77th Independence Day and hoist the National Flag in their houses and business establishments as part of Har Ghar Tiranga on August 15.
Talking to the media after the March Past and a light and sound show by the Assam Police, a special event to commemorate the 77th Independence Day at Latasil Playground, Guwahati, this evening, the Chief Minister said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi organized two programmes in sync with the Independence Day celebrations. Under the first programme, Har Ghar Tiranga, every household and business establishment will hoist a tricolour, click a photo of the tricolour, and upload it to a specific portal. They will get a certificate each.”
The Chief Minister said, “The second programme is the Panch Pran Pledge. Under this, each individual will take a lump of soil and pledge to work for the nation. The Prime Minister named this programme ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh’. Uploading a photograph of this will also lead to the issuance of a certificate. This programme is underway in the state, and will continue until August 15. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav will conclude after August 15, and we will step into the Amrit Kaal to start its journey towards centenary of the celebrations of Independence in 2047. On the eve of Amrit Kaal, I appeal to every individual in Assam to work for the nation with dedication. I also appeal to the people of the state to take part in the Independence Day celebrations in the state.”
Meanwhile, the Assam Police also organized a light and sound show at Dighalipukhuri. An Indian Air Force band also took part in the programme. The programme witnessed a firework show in the sky.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, also visited the war memorial at Dighalipukhuri and paid rich tributes to the war heroes.
Senior bureaucrats, top-level officers of the Assam Police, and many spectators were present at the programme.
