GUWAHATI: As many as 8.76 lakh farmers in the State got the 14th installment of Pradhan Mantri Kishan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) today. Under PM-Kishan, each eligible farmer gets Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments from the Central Government on the DBT mode.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 14th PM-Kishan installment for all farmers in the country today. Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora was virtually present at today's meeting on the release of the installment.
Talking to The Sentinel after the meeting, Bora said, "As many as 9.87 lakh farmers are under the PM-Kisan scheme from Assam. As many as 8.76 lakh of them got their installments. The remaining farmers will get it after fixing up the technicalities involved. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma places importance on enrolling more farmers from the state under PM-Kisan. He has had talks with the Agriculture department and the district commissioners on this issue several times. Our objective is to include the left-out real farmers of the state under the scheme."
The objective of PM-Kisan is to provide income support to all eligible land-holding farmers and their families. The PM-KISAN scheme also aims to supplement the financial needs of the farmers by procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields commensurate with the anticipated farm income.
