GUWAHATI: Ninety-two per cent of Aadhaar seeding of ration cards is over in the state. The government has asked the remaining beneficiaries to seed (link) their ration cards with Aadhaar cards by June 30 to ensure an uninterrupted flow of food grains.
The Central Government decided on the Aadhaar seeding (linking) of ration cards to keep ineligible people availing of ration card benefits at bay.
The State Government has noticed that the Aadhaar seeding of ration cards is a bit slow in the districts with more concentration of tea gardens as a section of garden workers lacks Aadhaar cards. Given that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed the deputy commissioners concerned to hold camps in tea garden areas for special Aadhaar enrolment.
According to the Directorate of Food & Civil Supplies, the state has around 58 lakh ration cardholders with 2.25 crore beneficiaries. According to sources in the Directorate, till today, 92 per cent of Aadhaar card seeding of ration cards covering 70 per cent of the beneficiaries is over.
In Sonitpur, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Sivasagar districts with more concentration of tea gardens, Aadhaar seeding is a bit slow. Since the Central Government set the June 30, 2022 deadline for the complete Aadhaar seeding of ration cards, the beneficiaries should link their Aadhaar cards with ration cards before June 30. The Directorate has asked those without Aadhaar cards to get their Aadhaar cards issued before June 30 and seed them with ration cards.
