Action against non-performing schools begins in Assam

GUWAHATI: Walking the talk! Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government would take punitive measures against schools registering 'zero performance' in HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and AHM (Assam High Madrassa) examinations-2022. The government is now taking action against 34 government/provincialized schools and 57 recognized venture schools with zero pass percentages in the HLSC/SHM examination this year.

At a review meeting on July 17, 2022, the Chief Minister ordered the Department of Secondary Education that 'schools showing zero percentage results in the last HSLC examinations should be amalgamated/merged with other schools by August this year. The Secondary Education Department has now started the process of school amalgamation.

Thirty-four government/provincialized school with zero performance in the HSLC/AHM examinations will not have their own identities. The authorities will merge or amalgamate the 34 schools with their nearby schools.

Seven government/provincialized schools in the Karbi Anglong district; five each in the Cachar and Jorhat districts; two each in the Dhubri, Goalpara, Lakhimpur and Nagaon districts; and one each in the Chirang, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Hailakandi and West Karbi Anglong districts will merge/amalgamate with other schools.

Fifty-seven recognized venture schools with zero pass percentage will lose their 'recognition'. Such schools are six in the Jorhat district; five each in the Kamrup and Nagaon districts; four each in the Dibrugarh and Hojai districts; three each in the Baksa, Bongaigaon, Karbi Anglong, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts; two each in Charaideo, Golaghat, Kamrup-M, Majuli, Nalbari district and one each in Barpeta, Cachar, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Morigaon and Sivasagar districts.
