GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed to the people not to take every Muslim as a jihadi or a jihadi sympathizer. "In the drive against jihadis in the state, we have received invaluable information from the local Muslims that led us to bust five jihadi modules. It is a good sign as it has proved that they don't want to see jihadis raising their ugly heads in their areas," he said.
The Chief Minister said, "I appeal to the Muslim community to inform the police if they notice any stranger imam or madrassa teacher in their areas. We do not want to view all imams and madrassa teachers with an eye of suspicion. We need your help. The government does not target any madrassa. It only wants to protect the state from fundamentalist activities."
He said, "We aim to isolate jihadis from the Muslim community of the state. We appeal to the peace-loving Muslim community to help us at this juncture. You can keep a close watch on what the madrassas teach your wards and what the madrassa teachers and imams do. The government will do all to keep a watch on the madrassas. We have closed 800 government-aided madrassas in the state. The state still has around 800 Qawami Madrassas, around 500 Hifzul Madrassas and around 400 Banat Madrassas. Now on, we will register all such madrassas and inspect their activities. Today we demolished Moirabari Madrassa from where ABT controlled its modules."
The Chief Minister said, "A section of people is bent on campaigning that the government is doing injustice to the Muslim community in India. Organizations like the PFI (People's Front of India) strike the emotional chord to make the Muslims believe that they are a deprived lot in India. When the ground becomes fertile for them, the jihadis come to the scene and indoctrinate the youth. We have already written to the Centre to ban the PFI. However, according to official statistics, Muslims are getting various benefits in the nation – admission into higher education, appointments, PMAY, farmers' loans, etc. Even in Assam, most of the beneficiaries of the EWS (Economically Weaker Scheme) are from the Muslim community. In the case of jobs, Muslim youths are getting them. They get admission to medical colleges. However, a section of people keeps such statistics aside and carries out a negative campaign to change Muslim youths into jihadi sympathizers."
