Altogether 19 Bangladeshis sent home via Sutarkandi check-post

SILCHAR: Altogether 19 Bangladeshis were sent back to their country on Thursday. They had infiltrated into Assam through the vulnerable border points at various times.

Following their detention, they were kept in the detention centres across the State. After serving their full jail terms, they were brought to the Sutarkandi check-post by the personnel of BSF and Assam police. From there, they were sent back home.

Their departure was, however, delayed due to some official wrangling. At last, it was resolved diplomatically. With the initiative of the Assam government and the Guwahati-based Bangladesh Embassy, the matter was finally brought to a logical conclusion. Bangladesh High Commission in Guwahati, Dr. Shah Mohammad Tanvir Mansur and Moulvi Bazaar District Youth Development office assistant Amalendu Kumar Das extended all necessary help and cooperation in this regard.

It was in the dawn of Thursday that all the Bangladeshis were brought to Sutarkandi land port near Karimganj town. At 2 pm, BSF and Assam police (border) handed them over to BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) and immigration police of Bangladesh.

Karimganj Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha has said that all the illegal migrants were subjected to COVID test as per the standing protocol to ensure they do not go back home with the virus. He further informed that they were freed from their respective jail terms a few days back.
