GUWAHATI: The anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and pro-ILP (Inner Line Permit) agitation is back in Assam. The AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad) is going to stage sit-in demonstrations in all district and sub-divisional headquarters in the State on January 9.
Talking to the media here on Monday, AJYCP president Palash Changmai said, "We're going to start our agitation against the CAA and in support of ILP from January 9, 2021. After the Bhogali Bihu, we're going to take out torchlight rallies on January 20. It will be followed by street meetings in district and sub-divisional headquarters in the State on January 27. Ours is a two-pronged battle against the CAA.
Besides agitation, we're engaged in a legal battle for the repeal of the CAA.
"We're here to make the anti-CAA agitation reach every nook and corner of the State with more vigour."
On the demand for the introduction of ILP in the State, Changmai said, "Apart from the relentless agitation, we've also filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India seeking justice. The apex Court has asked the State government to submit an affidavit to this effect; but Dispur hasn't submitted it as yet.
"Had there been ILP in Assam, the indigenous people of the State would have been free from aggression and infiltration. We've decided to take the ILP agitation to New Delhi."
On the NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) projects in the Northeast, Changmai said, "We'll continue the agitation against the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project in a strong way.
"We're also going to agitate on issues like revitalization of public sector undertakings in the State, ensure dues for teachers, measures for preservation of agricultural produces, sealing of the Assam-Bangladesh border and settlement of inter-State boundary disputes etc.
"The need of the hour in Assam is to strengthen regionalism and Assamese nationalism. I appeal to all regional forces in the State to get united on these issues."
