GUWAHATI: The APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) has set the target of collecting Rs 600-crore revenue in July. It has set the new target after collecting Rs 509-crore revenue in June.
According to official sources, the power distribution company has to suffer a monthly loss of around Rs 300 crore. And a short collection of revenue is one of the reasons behind loss-making by the company.
According to sources, in 2021, the company collected Rs 382 crore in January, Rs 345 crore in February, Rs 320 crore in March, Rs 319 crore in April and Rs 336 crore in May.
On the contrary, according to sources, the company spends around Rs 560 crore monthly and Rs 6,825 crore annually — around Rs 6,000 for purchasing power from public sector units and Rs 700 crore for employees' salaries.
The APDCL generates only around 313-MW power daily against the maximum daily demand of 1,948 MW.
Till March 31 this year, the APDCL had 58,77,907 power consumers across the State. Following the emphasis on revenue power collection by Power Minister Bimal Borah, the company could collect Rs 509-crore revenue in June this year. That amount is also much less than the monthly expenditure of the APDCL that stands at Rs 560 crore. And that made the company set its revenue collection target for July at Rs 600 crore.
The company has asked its officials to increase its billing and revenue collection efficiencies to achieve the target.
The recent crackdown by the APDCL on power theft, illegal power connection and defaulting power bills has led to the sudden upsurge in revenue collection in June. In June, the company conducted 2,021 raids and lodged 642 FIRs during the crackdown, besides 1,11,515 disconnections for default in payment and power theft.
