GUWAHATI: APS officer Sukanya Das, posted as Additional Deputy Commissioner Police (ADCP) of the Guwahati Crime Branch, was arrested for her alleged involvement in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam, after grilling by the SIT on Monday.

It was learnt that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police, set up to investigate the cash-for-job scam, found evidence of foul play by Sukanya Das, ostensibly in connivance with APSC officials, after two extra answer scripts were found inserted into the original answer sheets. Instead of six answer scripts, there were eight answer scripts in the booklet, confirming the foul play indulged in by Das.

After her arrest, Sukanya Das was produced in court, which remanded her to 6-day police custody.

With the arrest of Sukanya Das, the ADCP of Crime Branch in Guwahati, the number of those arrested in the cash-for-job scam has gone up to four. Earlier, the police arrested Aishwarya (Aoicharya) Jibon Baruah, Shahjahan (Sajahan) Sarkar and Rakesh Das. While Baruah and Sarkar were arrested on the night of November 22, fugitive from law Rakesh Das was arrested almost one week later from the Beltola area of the city.

Moreover, it is learnt that the two officers-Kokrajhar ASP Nabanita Sharma and Cachar ASP Kalyan Kumar Das-were still being quizzed by the SIT. The duo was summoned to appear before the SIT on Monday.

Meanwhile, the SIT has issued summonses to three more APS officers: Faruk Ahmed, Dipankar Dutta Lahkar and Ashima Kalita, asking them to appear before it on December 7.
