GUWAHATI: At a time when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police has started a fresh investigation into the cash-for-job scam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Assam Police will do their duty in the APSC scam and that the Gauhati High Court is also looking into the matter.

The Chief Minister asked the people not to dwell on the past mistakes of the APSC but to move on for the benefit of future job aspirants, as the recruitment body is now above reproach.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said, “The law will take its own course in the APSC scam. The police are looking into the matter. The Gauhati High Court is also observing it. The police will do their job 100 percent.”

Recently, the Assam government set up the SIT to conduct a fresh investigation into the APSC cash-for-job scam. The State Government has already informed the Gauhati High Court about the setting up of the SIT.

The Chief Minister further said, “APSC is now transparent. At present, the oral exams (CCE-2022) are going on. When the final results are out, please look into the backgrounds of the successful candidates. See the families from which the candidates are getting jobs. The selection of the candidates will be on a merit basis. During the time of the present government, it is our objective to ensure that the recruitment process is completely clean.”

“We should not keep on discussing the earlier period of the APSC, when it became tainted. The oral exams are now going on. Otherwise, the candidates will start to think that something might go wrong in the recruitment exams this time. In such a scenario, the touts will take advantage to operate. My objective is to provide employment to one lakh youth in a clear and transparent manner,” he opined.

He asserted that there is no corruption in the APSC at present, and the objective of making the recruitment agency a clean one has already been achieved.
