GUWAHATI, Oct 1: The statements on the cash-for-job scam in the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) made by DGP Kuladhar Saikia and Dibrugarh ASP Surajit Singh Panesar, which are in sync with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s statement against corruption, have dropped a broad hint that more fishes are to be caught in the police dragnet.

Speaking on a judicial officer’s involvement in the APSC scam for favourable bail, the DGP said on Monday that everything has to go within the parameters of laws. The DGP spoke on the occasion when he highlighted the crucial role played by Assam Police in the fight against insurgency and maintaining law and order situation during the NRC update.

In sync with the DGP’s statement, APSC scam investigating officer (IO) Surajit Singh Panesar said: “More charge-sheets are to follow in the cash-for-job scam in the APSC. Four or five others, including candidates, are set to be caught in the police dragnet.”

Earlier, the Chief Minister said: “Assam Police has been able to win the trust of the people of the state by providing diligent service in the recent period and a sense of security and peace is prevailing across the state.”

Saying that the State Government is taking a lot of steps to modernize the Assam Police, Sonowal stated that along with infrastructural changes the mentality must also be changed which is suitable for a modern police force. A cyberdome is set up in the State to tackle cyber crimes and a lot of other initiatives have been taken to make a smart police force, he said.

Honouring 16 police personnel for their outstanding performances with Chief Minister’s Medal, Sonowal said that Assam Police should aim for becoming the best police force in the country. He urged them to set an example before the younger generation to dedicate themselves to the cause of the society and encourage them to aspire to join the police force.

The Chief Minister urged the police force to maintain the environment of peace and tranquility for the industrial development of the state. Age-old ties and harmony among all sections of people in the State must be maintained and outsiders visiting the state must be able to witness the tranquil environment of the state, he said.
