TINSUKIA: It was a day of jubilation for the students and teachers of Women's College, Tinsukia after Cherry Gohain topped the list in Arts stream in the HS final exam, 2022, results of which were declared on Monday.

A festive atmosphere prevailed in the college. Cherry shared the top position with another candidate. Daughter of Mridula Gohain, a homemaker, and Prabin Gohain, a Sales Tax employee from Dimaruguri GP's Kaptanchuk village under Chabua constituency, Cherry had to walk through the muddy and kuccha Sankardev Path, which always remains under knee-deep water, before reaching NH-37.

Talking to The Sentinel at her residence, Cherry said that she never expected to a topper but was confident that she would perform better than the HSLC examination in which she missed making it to the merit list. She credited her success to the faculty members of the college. She never took private tuition. She studied for around 16 hours and refreshed her mind by listening to music and watching movies.

Cherry now intends to move to Guwahati for her undergraduate studies and wishes to become a college teacher or a civil servant. Interestingly, she secured the highest mark in History, the subject which scared her most.
