Assam's Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) seizes Rs 49.24 lakh from arrested officer's house

GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) on Friday night recovered an amount of over Rs 49.24 lakh from the Rukmini Gaon residence of KK Sarma, an ACS officer serving as a Joint Secretary in the Home & Political Department, after he was arrested while taking a bribe from a person in lieu of renewing the license of a private security firm.

Sarma was trapped by the VAC and caught red-handed in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 on Friday evening from an applicant for license renewal, who had alerted the sleuths previously about the demand for illegal gratification made by KK Sarma.

Sarma was produced in the Court of the Special Judge here today and remanded to police custody for five days.

Meanwhile, the VAC is working to ascertain the exact quantum of KK Sarma's moveable and immoveable assets.
