Children Death/Casualties During Assam Floods: Following the death of several children during floods across the State, the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) has decided to carry out a detailed survey-cum-study in this regard. To be carried out with Tezpur University, talks are on with the UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Education Fund) for funding this exhaustive exercise, ASDMA sources told The Sentinel.
The threefold focus of the project will be to unearth the reason(s), suggest preventive measures and also ways to build up awareness among the masses to ensure that the rate of death among kids during the floods is contained. According to the preliminary plan, members of the study teams will visit the affected families and collect details of the circumstances that caused those unfortunate accidents.
Official statistics say that during the period from 2014 to 2020, a total of 588 people died in the annual assam floods. Of these flood victims, altogether 245 were children.
