FREMMA to conduct Orthomosaic drone survey of the riverbank
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: A State Government agency, FREMAA (Flood and River Erosion Management Agency of Assam), will conduct an Orthomosaic drone survey of the Brahmaputra riverbank in the state as a pre-activity for baseline data for a climate resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project (CRBIFRERMP).
Since most of the ageing embankments along the river Brahmaputra are in pathetic condition and not strong enough to control floods in the state, the Government of India has applied for financing from the ADB (Asian Development Bank) towards the cost of the CRBIFRERMP. Before that, the State Government had approached the Government of India for an onward application for ADB funding for the project. Though no MoU has been signed on the project (CRBIFRERMP) with the ADB, the project is in the pipeline on a positive note. The State Government entrusted FREMAA to look into the entire project.
According to sources in the FREMAA, the proposed project will cover around 60 km of the Brahmaputra riverbank, where anti-erosion projects and embankment repair facilities will come up. This necessitates the FREMAA to get a clear picture of the riverbank, including human habitations and other aspects. To get baseline data on this front, the FREMAA has decided to conduct an Orthomosaic drone survey along the riverbank. The FREMAA has already floated tenders for the proposed drone survey from eligible firms and agencies.
