GUWAHATI: The Assam Assembly poll, 2021, the results of which were declared on Sunday, has a few tidbits.
Highest margin: Rafiqul Islam of the AIUDF won the Jania seat in the Barpeta district with the highest margin of 1,44,775 votes. He defeated his nearest BJP candidate Sahidul Islam. While Rafiqul polled 1,56,183 votes, Islam polled 11,408 votes.
Lowest margin: Congress candidates from Nazira LAC in Sivasagar district Debabrata Saikia won the seat by defeating his nearest BJP rival candidate Mayur Borgohain by the lowest margin of 683 votes in this Assembly poll.
While Saikia polled 52,387 votes, Borgohain polled 51,704 votes.
Youngest legislator: Ashraful Hussain of the AIUDF from Chenga LAC in Barpeta district is the youngest MLA (27 years) in the 15th Assam Assembly. He defeated his nearest AGP candidate Rabiul Hussain by a margin of 51,933 votes.
Re-elected after 36 years: Durga Das Boro made it to the Assam Legislative Assembly after long 36 years. He was an AGP MLA in the first Prafulla Kumar Mahanta government in 1985. He was a Minister of State too.
However, this time he made it to the State Assembly on a BPF ticket from Kalaigaon LAC in Udalguri district. He defeated his nearest rival BJP candidate Madhuram Deka by a margin of 7,102 votes.
