GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet today took a slew of important decisions, including the move to repeal around 329 obsolete laws and holding Lachit Divas in New Delhi with the participation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
Addressing the media, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "The state has several outdated laws. After taking views from various departments in the past three months, the Cabinet today decided to repeal 329 obsolete laws in the next Assembly session. The number of outdated laws may be more.
"The Cabinet also decided to observe the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on November 23 and 24. While Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the opening ceremony on November 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the closing ceremony on November 24.
"For the first time, the Cabinet decided to hold the Chintan Shivir of the State Government for three days, starting from September 24. All ministers, including the Chief Minister, all senior secretaries, and government and non-government resource persons, will get an invitation to the shivir. The shivir will discuss the works already done by the government, besides making plans for such future work.
"The Cabinet decided to offer a DSP/Deputy Commandant rank post to Commonwealth Games gold medal winner (lawn ball) Nayanmoni Saikia. The government will also reward her with Rs 50 lakh on September 3, the birthday of Olympian Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah.
"The Cabinet decided to elevate the post of State Election Commissioner to the rank of a high court judge. A person holding this post will get all pay and parks that a high court judge gets.
"The Cabinet fixed February 9, 10, 11 and 12 next for special casual leave under the Pitri-Matri Vandana Scheme to government employees."
