Assam chef Nayanjyoti Saikia wins ‘Master Chef India’ title

Nayanjyoti Saikia of Gobindopur, a suburb of Tinsukia, clinched Season 7 of the popular cooking reality TV series Master Chef India’ and the coveted trophy Golden Chef’s Coat

TINSUKIA: Nayanjyoti Saikia of Gobindopur, a suburb of Tinsukia, clinched Season 7 of the popular cooking reality TV series Master Chef India’ and the coveted trophy Golden Chef’s Coat, along with a cheque for Rs 25 lakh from Sony Entertainment Television. The event was premiered on January 2, 2023 till 31 March 2023. The first runner-up was Santa Sarmah, a homemaker from Nowgaon, Assam, and the second runner-up was Suvarna Bagul, a homemaker from Mumbai. They got a prize money of Rs 5,00,000 each. Hundreds of people from Gobindopur and adjoining areas greeted him on his arrival at Mohanbari Airport on Saturday.

A large number of home cooks appeared at the nationwide auditions, of which 36 cooks were selected by Master Chef India judges and welcomed at the Master Chef Kitchen, where the top 16 contestants were selected for the final spots. A total of 65 episodes were held. The judges in this season of Master Chef India were Ranveer Brar, Garima Arora, and Vikas Khanna. Similar to past seasons, Amul remained the title sponsor of the show. The audition rounds were conducted in four cities across the country: Kolkata (September 24), Delhi (October 1), Hyderabad (October 8), and Mumbai (October 15).

Nayanjyoti Saikia has an interesting story about participating in the reality show. Popular Chief Vikas Khanna travelled thousands of kilometres to find an Assamese home cook and picked up Nayanjyoti as a participant. The chef had seen him on Instagram and was impressed; later, he visited his home in Gobindopur and sampled his cooking, particularly duck cuisine.
