Assam Civil Service officer Biswajit Goswami suspended for demanding bribe

GUWAHATI: Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Biswajit Goswami, who had been arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption for demanding and accepting bribe, was suspended today by the Assam Government. After getting the approval of the Chief Minister, the State Personnel Department today issued a notification in this regard.

According to the notification, Biswajit Goswami, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zilla Parishad, Dhubri, was arrested on July 21, 2023 by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in connection with ACB PS Case No 53/2023, for demanding and accepting bribe money through his office staff along with his accomplice, Mrinal Kanti Sarkar, Additional District Programmer in the office of the CEO, Dhubri Zilla Parishad.

During the search of the house and official residence of Biswajit Goswami, a total amount of Rs 2,32,85,300 was recovered in cash along with documents of multiple bank accounts and property related documents, which were seized in presence of witnesses.

The Governor of Assam, in exercise of powers conferred under Rule 6(2) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964, ordered that Biswajit Goswami should be placed under suspension with effect from the date of his arrest until further orders. During the period of suspension, his headquarter, if released from judicial custody, will be same as his last place of posting.
