 STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured the State Assembly of ordering a CBI inquiry if the Opposition can prove anomalies against a single post amongst a large number of candidates who got appointments during the period of this government.

On the second day of the Autumn Session of the State Assembly today, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam and Congress MLA Kamalakshya Dey Purkayastha alleged large-scale scandals in the recent appointments to government jobs in the state. Pukayastha said, “There are reports of state BJP headquarters called Vajpayee Bhawan being involved in the job scandal. The situation has come to the pass of arresting a BJP leader. A thorough inquiry may reveal the involvement of more such people. Taking that in view, I request the Chief Minister to investigate the scandal with the Enforcement Directorate or the CBI”. MLA Aminul Islam also raised the demand for a proper inquiry.

Responding to the demand from the Opposition, the Chief Minister said, “This government recruited candidates for around 87,000 posts. If anybody cites a single example where a particular candidate should not have got the job, we will make no delay in ordering a CBI inquiry. I will publish the names of the candidates as and when we complete providing jobs to one lakh candidates. In Assam, there is no scandal about getting jobs. However, there are scandals over people not getting jobs after paying money. Some have taken money with the promise of giving the government jobs, which they could not. And that led one to commit suicide. This is a success in my life that there is a scandal over not getting jobs after paying money. Poor candidates like rickshawalas and thelawalas also got jobs in the state this time. Give me just a single name of someone who should not have got the post, and I will call the CBI to inquire into it. If the CBI calls 87,000 candidates during the inquiry, all those youths will scold you.”

Responding to MLA Aminul Islam, the Chief Minister said, “Just give five or six names of candidates who shouldn’t have got government jobs. This is because, to hand over a case to the CBI, I need to justify that, or else the investigation agency will not take it. It is wrong to doubt the credentials of the candidates who have got government jobs after reading hard and running. There is no scandal in getting jobs in Assam. We are going to advertise 22,000 more posts. Yes, there is a scandal over not getting jobs after paying money. We will investigate that and conclude it logically. The government has no information regarding scandals involving those who have got jobs.”
