Assam CM inaugurates projects worth Rs 168 crore for Karbi Anglong

 DIPHU: Adding a new chapter to the ongoing growth story in Karbi Anglong, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated multiple projects costing a total of Rs. 168 crore on Monday.

The projects inaugurated today are the 3,000-seating capacity Sertalin Auditorium at Taralangso built at a cost of Rs. 35 crore, the Sarsing Teron Langkung Habe Multi-purpose Sports Complex at KASA Satdium in Diphu built at a cost of Rs. 75 crore, the extended arm of the Kajir Ronghangpi VIP Guest House at Taralangso built at a cost of Rs. 5.57 core, the beautification of the Langkung Phang Fishery at Taralangso costing approximately Rs. 2.55 crore, the Rangsina Sarpo Ahongjai Permanent Open Space at Taralangso built at a project cost of Rs. 5.50 lakh, the beautification of Kuleng Abi Fishery at Taralangso that cost an amount of Rs. 2 crore, the Rongbong Artu, Karbi Capital Complex at Taralangso costing around Rs. 6.86 crore, the landscaping and beautification of Karbi People's Hall at Taralangso at a project cost of Rs. 3.78 crore, the Cheleng Athepai in the memory of Jirlong Ariso at Taralangso costing around Rs. 4.2 crore, the Sing Mirjeng VIP Gallery at Taralangso costing Rs. 99 lakh, the new market complex at Rongkhelan in Diphu costing around Rs. 10 crore, the Song Bey Inter-state Bus terminus at DM Road in Diphu that cost Rs. 12 crore and the truck terminus at Diphu costing Rs. 5 crore.

Speaking at a public meeting organized in Diphu, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Karbi society has always maintained a rich socio-cultural tradition and a firm belief in the ancient system of faith. Chief Minister Sarma said the rich cultures of the Karbis originated in the Rongkhang area and that it is from this area that the Karbis established twelve capitals from which they practised Karbi rules and rituals, traditions, and culture.

Chief Minister Sarma said the history of the Karbi community dates back to 3000 BC and that the Karbi society has been moving forward through the practice of the Honghari faith, the traditional belief system based on clan and ancestors. Stating that it's extremely important for a society to remain attached to its roots, Chief Minister Sarma said a society cannot progress for long by severing ties with its ancestral forms of belief and practice. He said it is incumbent upon the Karbi youths to see that the ancestral forms of belief of their community don't lose their relevance in society.

King of the Karbi community Longsing Ronghang, Minister of Assam Cabinet Jogen Mohan, Chief Executive of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, Member of Parliament Horen Sing Bey, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Numal Momin, Members of Legislative Assembly Rupsing Teron, Dorsing Ronghang, and Bidya Sing Engleng, along with a host of dignitaries, were present too, a press release said.
