GUWAHATI: The poor performance of 139 colleges across the State in the Higher Secondary (HS) final exam, 2023 has left the Education Department worried. The Directorate of Higher Education has sought explanations from the principals of these 139 colleges for the poor performance.
These 139 colleges include government colleges, provincialized colleges and model colleges. These colleges registered a pass percentage of less than 75% in this year’s HS final exam. The Directorate of Higher Education has written a letter to the principal of each college, asking for an explanation for the below-par performance of the college. The principals have been asked to submit the reports by June 30, 2023. After carefully examining the reports, necessary corrective measures will be suggested.
Many colleges registered less than 75% pass percentage in this year’s HS final exam. The letter to the principals stated that the “Education Minister is very concerned about the results of the Higher Secondary final exams”. As the pass percentage of these schools is below 75%, the principals have been asked to give a justification for the poor performance and mention what corrective measures have been taken by them to improve the exam results next year. Besides, the principals have also been asked to submit reports of their colleges’ HS final exam results for 2021 and 2022 as well.
Sources said that the government is giving considerable thrust on improving the education sector of the State. It has provided various facilities to educational institutions, teachers are getting regular salaries and the infrastructures of the institutions have also been developed. Despite this, the performance of many schools and colleges is not up to the mark. The government believes that lack of commitment and dedication on the part of teachers is one of the main reasons for this. The government has taken this issue seriously and will take steps to improve the education scenario and to secure the future of students.
