Assam: Election Commission of India roadmap for photo electoral roll revision

GUWAHATI: A team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) has given a roadmap to the officers engaged in the preparations of the electoral roll 2024 in the post-constituency delimitation exercise in the state.

Deputy Election Commissioner Hirdesh Kumar led an ECI team to Assam on a two-day visit on November 17 and 18. During the visit, the ECI team guided the district commissioners, election officers of the districts, and top officials of the State Election Department on how to prepare the fresh photo electoral roll as per the newly delimited constituencies in the state.

The ECI team had its IT (information technology) officials accompanying it. The IT officials guided the state officials on the technological side of the revision of the photo electoral roll.

After the delimitation exercise, the ECI froze the photo electoral roll in the state so as to pave the way for the preparation of a fresh photo electoral roll in the state.

According to the current schedule, the State Election Department is to publish the draft photo electoral roll on December 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, senior Deputy Election Commissioner (DEO) Dharmendra Sharma is arriving in the state tomorrow to review the overall preparations for the Lok Sabha election 2024 in the northeastern states and West Bengal. All Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the states concerned will attend the review meeting in Guwahati tomorrow. The senior Deputy Election Commissioner will review electoral rolls, EVMs (electronic voting machines), security scenarios, the deployment of manpower, etc., in the Lok Sabha election.
