GUWAHATI: Floods continue to persist in as many as 122 villages in seven districts in the state. The districts are Biswanath, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar.

The number of flood-affected people in the state today is 29,612. Though 19 relief camps are still open in the state, only 15 inmates are staying in them. The reports of partially damaged roads came from three stretches in Dhemijai: one in Goalpara, two in Lakhimpur, and one in Sonitpur.

Since the monsoon is far from over now, the State Government has kept the relief camps open, though they have almost no inmates.

The government is estimating the crop areas damaged by the floods. The State Health Department is taking all precautionary measures to prevent water-borne diseases from occurring in the post-flood period.

Sources in the Disaster Management Department said that the number of heavily or fully damaged houses in the first wave of floods was very small. However, some of the gobbling rivers eroded away some households, schools, anganwadi centres, etc., located in the riparian areas.

The government has already extended immediate flood relief to the affected families, who will have to wait for compensation for other losses. The government compensates such losses after the final assessment of all the waves of floods in a year.
