Assam Floods: Situation of state has improves; third toll in Nalbari

GUWAHATI: Even as the flood situation in the state has improved a little today, the deluge has claimed its third toll in Nalbari. However, even now, 1,118 villages have been reeling under flood waters in the state. Around four people are affected by the deluge, besides 8,469 hectares of cropland and around four lakh livestock.

This wave of floods has caused much damage to the infrastructure-roads, embankments, bridges, dykes, houses, schools, anganwadi centres, etc. Sarupeta, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, and Dhubri have many roads submerged, besides damage to many approaches to bridges. Several embankments have been damaged in Mangaldai, Bokakhat, Hajo, and Nalbari. The deluge has so far damaged 290 kutcha houses in the state.

The administration is operating 220 relief camps and relief centres in the flood-affected areas. The administration distributed around 1,475 quintals of rice, 247 quintals of dal (pulses), 1,535 litres of mustard oil, and 165 quintals of salt among the flood-affected people. It also distributed 5,717 quintal cattle feeds.
